As with many maps that we have in inventory, Vukovar is based in a historic event. Vukovar is a city in Croatia at a fork of the rivers Vuka and Danube. Pre World War II, dating back to antiquity, Croatia was in independent country well before the bronze age. 
After WWII, Croatia was absorbed into Yugoslavia. It was a mash up of Croats, Serbians, Germans and Hungarians. Vastly different cultures. In 1991, after Croatia voted on creating their own country, war broke out among all the different groups and Ethnic Serbs were subjected to interrogations, kidnappings, torture and execution.
The battle of Vukovar began in August of 1991 and lasted until November. Heavy damage from fighting left the city in ruins. The iconic water tower was heavily damaged and the map makers included this in the map that we play.
